Introduction

Hello! My name is Brooke Jennings and I am a sophomore at Florida State University majoring in International Relations. Instead of going up to FSU for the semester I decided to stay home with my family down in Tampa, Florida. What is keeping me busy is a new job that I got over the summer and balancing school work on top of that. If I do have free time I usually watch tv, more specifically anime. Once this pandemic is over, I am excited to see my grandparents and have Sunday night dinners again with them.

Prior to class, I have used some technology in an educational setting. Most prominently, I used turn it in, Google docs, and Powerpoint. Google docs was probably the platform that I used the most so my classmates and I could communicate and work on the same thing while being away from each-other. Powerpoint was most used presentation method for me in high school. Some other minor platforms that I used prior would be Prezi, Photoshop, and Piktochart. Personally, I do not think I am that great with technology compared to others my age but hopefully I improve and get a better understanding.

At FSU, some of my personal learning networks are Canvas and Outlook to communicate, keep up to date with assignments and access information I need for my classes. I also like to use Youtube to help me learn and study a certain subject and for personal use like trying to set up imesages on my computer. Besides these online tools, I like to use my teachers and any books that I need for a certain class to help succeed. Lastly, I like to go to my friends for help and I usually ask as many questions as possible.

  2. Hi Brooke, you live in a beautiful bay area! We have one more girl from Tampa in this class. If you watched Flipgrid introduction, you would know. PLN is more than tools. Do you remember the PLN framework? It includes people, spaces, and tools. Let's think about animation. If you are interested in animation and want to learn how to draw as well as to get any relevant information and knowledge, where would you go? Who would you connect to get those resources? You may join an animation club at FSU or any local club at Tampa. Since we are quarantined, you may join an online community through social media and connect to people with the same interest or professional knowledge. We will learn about how to build a teacher PLN in this class, but before then, think about your formal and informal learning network for anything to get some better ideas about PLN.
